Do You Know When?

Go Back

Half of all pregnancies are unplanned. Do you have a plan? It is important for you to know your body and keep track of your periods.

About Your Monthly Cycle

  • The first day of your cycle is the day that you start bleeding.
  • Most women bleed for three to five days
  • Shortly after day 11, the ovary releases an egg.
  • This is called ovulation (ah-vu-lay-shun)
  • If you have sex during this time, conception or fertilization (fur-til-i-zay-shun) can occur.
  • This is the beginning of a pregnancy.
  • The fertilized egg then travels down through a fallopian (fa-lo-pea-en) tube and attaches to the uterine wall.
  • If the egg is not fertilized then it will be released by your body as blood and tissue. THIS IS YOUR PERIOD.
  • You will normally ovulate about 14 days before your next period.
