Access to Health Care
Access to health care is important for all people but it is especially important for a woman in the time before and during pregnancy. Regular health care is very helpful to the total health of a woman and should include: regular pap smears and breast exams; regular physical exams including weight, height, and blood pressure; evaluation and treatment of any current health problems or infections; screening for health conditions that effect one’s health for a long period of time, for example high blood pressure (hypertension); health teaching about infections, nutrition and physical activity; and dental services. Even if a person does not have health insurance or enough financial resources, regular health care is open to all people within their county’s health department. Listed below are more information and resources to help people access regular health care and to help them evaluate current financial resources to get ready for pregnancy.
